General Motors wants to be the first automobil manufacturer to bring electric cars to market en masse. The company unveils the production version of the Chevy Volt to the world on 9/16/2008. The Volt has a small 4-cylinder internal combustion engine, but unlike current available hybrid cars, the actual propulsion of the Volt is accomplished by the electric motor.
